DLT:
  • Demonstrate how to apply computer science and problem solving to develop an app that solves a problem
  • Design a concept app and then use your app to give examples of input, output, processing, and storage and explain how information is used.
  • create a mockup of an app using a presentation tool like Keynote, PowerPoint, or Slides. Your mockup should include input screens, output screens, and additional Home Screen or settings screens.

Activities:
  • Code.org App Proposal Shark Tank Presentation: App Mock Up - Today is for working on your App mock up. Today we are focusing on building the simulated app. The simulated app is due by end of next class.

Creating a Mockup of an App:

Steps to Follow:

Step 1: Choose Your App Idea

  • Think about what type of app you want to create.
  • Is it a game, a productivity tool, or something else?

Step 2: Plan Your Screens

  • Decide how many screens your app will have.
  • At a minimum, you need:
    • An input screen (where users enter information)
    • An output screen (where users see results)
    • A Home Screen (the main screen of your app)
    • A settings screen (where users can adjust app preferences)
  • Sketch a rough layout of each screen on paper or in Notability.

Step 3: Choose Your Presentation Tool

  • Select one of the following tools to create your app mockup:
    • Keynote
    • PowerPoint
    • Slides
  • Make sure you have access to it on your device.

Step 4: Create the Input Screen

  • Open your chosen tool and create a new slide for your input screen.
  • Add elements like text boxes, buttons, or images that you want users to interact with.
  • Think about what information users need to provide.

Step 5: Create the Output Screen

  • Add another slide for your output screen.
  • Show what the user will see after they enter information.
  • Use charts, text boxes, or images to represent the output visually.

Step 6: Design the Home Screen

  • Create a slide for the Home Screen.
  • Include buttons or icons that link to other sections of the app (like the input and output screens).
  • Make it visually appealing and easy to navigate.

Step 7: Optional - Create a Settings Screen

  • Create a settings screen on another slide.
  • Think about what settings users might want to change (like notifications or themes, what information is stored, preferences, etc).
  • Add the relevant buttons or options.

Step 8: Focus on User Interface and Visual Presentation

  • Review all your slides for consistency in:
    • Colors: Choose a color scheme and use it throughout.
    • Style: Make sure elements look similar (e.g., rounded corners on buttons).
    • Font: Use the same font type and size for similar text.
    • Placement: Keep similar elements in the same place on each screen.

Step 9: Review Your Mockup

  • Go through each slide.
  • Check for any spelling or grammar mistakes.
  • Make sure it all looks good and is easy to understand.

Step 10: Prepare for Presentation

  • Be ready to explain your app idea and how it works.
  • Think about what makes your app unique and why someone would want to use it.

Reminder:

Take your time with each step. You can ask for help if you get stuck. Good luck creating your app mockup!
